Magnum
-a breakthrough in pump design.
The Magnum Centrifugal Pump represents a revolutionary
development for supreme-duty performance in all types of fluid
pumping operations. Years of experience in the design, manufacture
and field study of centrifugal pumps go into the Magnum. Result:
It is more powerful, more durable, and easier to maintain than
any conventional pump in use today
Magnum has a range of advantage over conventional
pumps:
- Optimum pressure at low operating speeds.
- Thicker casing to extend life from wear and corrosion.
- Smoother, non-turbulent flow throughout casing.
- New impeller design to reduce loads and extend bearing
life.
- Larger, stronger alloy steel shaft to reduce deflection.
- Replaceable ceramic-coated shaft sleeve in packing wear
area.
- Larger, long-life bearings.
- Replaceable stuffing box cover.
- Mechanical seal available.

· Oil Well Drilling · Geophysical
· Water well drilling · Oil Production ·
Oil Refining ·Pipelines · Natural Gasoline Recycling
· Marine Application · Petrochemical Industries
· Heavy & Light Chemical Plants · Fertilizer
Industries · Pulp & Paper Plants · Mining
· Ash Handling · And other applications were
centrifugal pumps are an advantage. |
| Thicker,
Stronger concentric casing.
The Magnum casing is an average of 37% thicker than
conventional pump casing, and up to 50% thicker for larger,
mud-pumping models. The concentric casing offers performance
advantage over the volute configuration of other pumps. In
the concentric casing, the distance between the impeller and
the casing is equal at all points, and the pump provides streamlined
flows even at shutoff. |
The concentric casing
eliminates turbulence and cavitations caused by cutwater in
conventional volute pumps. The Magnum casing eliminates vibration
throughout the entire range of operation.
Magnum casing are pressure rated equal
to the flange rating and are designed with a 1/8-inch corrosion
allowance. Casings are normally supplied without tapped
opening for maximum corrosion and wear resistance. Where
drains are required, the casing has a heavy, cast drain
area for extra life and easy front accessibility.
Highly Efficient,
open-vane impeller.
The Magnum impeller is designed to offer a range of advantages:
· The metal between the vanes is removed, and partial
shrouds are provided for maximum vane support
· Entrance shape of the vane that is more tangential
to the circumference of the suction reduces
turbulence
· Open Vane design eliminates recirculation which
occur in closed impellers
· Reduction of the area affected by unbalanced forces
results in a much lower axial thrust and improved
bearing life
· Back vanes reduce the concentration of solids at
the stuffing box and lower the pressure of the
stuffing box.
This improved impeller has a wider design
and greater distance from the tip of the vanes to the casing.
Fluid leaving the impeller is allowed to blend with recirculating
fluid, which reduces abrasive wear of the casing.
The Magnum pump has a tangential discharge, which is important
for efficient operation with heavy, abrasive fluids. Centerline
discharge pumps are subjected to extra bends and changes
in direction, which causes greater wear when handling suspended
matter or solids.
This unique Magnum impeller offers: up to 60% less thrust
load, 25% less radial load, less entrance turbulence, and
less unbalanced loads.

| Heavy-duty
shaft and bearing.
The Magnum shaft has a much larger diameter than conventional
pump shafts. The advantages are: heavy-duty performance, minimum
deflection, and increased service life of the packing. The
shaft is made from alloy steel & body hardened to impart
optimum properties for high power transmission. The shaft
area under the packing has a renewable hook type sleeve with
one end free to expand with temperature variations. The sleeve
can be easily replaced in the field without removing the shaft.
This sleeve is ceramic coated for extended life.
The
rear or outboard bearing is a duplex set of angular contact
bearings with high thrust load capabilities and zero endplay.
The bearing has large balls, which are preloaded so that each
set carries an equal load. The front or inboard bearing is
a double-row ball bearing with high radial load capabilities.
Magnum's improved impeller design, together with the higher
load carrying bearings, results in a calculated bearing lifetime
up to 20 times that of other pumps. |

Stuffing
box cover.
The rear cover of the Magnum casing and the
stuffing box chamber are both integrated into a single unit,
the stuffing box cover. This cover is bolted to the frame with
one bolt, and can be easily replaced.
The deep stuffing box accommodates five standard
rings of packing and a Lantern Ring. The packing gland is
split and can be completely removed for easy repacking. The
stuffing box has a tapped opening to the Lantern Ring for
internal flushing if desired.
The stuffing box is completely machined for
mechanical seal installation, either originally or as a field
conversion. Outside, inside, double or balanced seals can
be furnished to meet specific requirements.
Easy removal of the stuffing box cover allows
convenient replacement of the shaft sleeve. |
